Attaching Guttering To Fascia

At the end of the first piece of guttering fit a union bracket by screwing it into the fascia. Gutters should be attached to the fascia and run the entire length of the roof ending with a downspout. A home without fascia needs to have gutters attached by roof straps. Lay the gutter into the brackets that you ve lag screwed to the fascia.

One way to make sure your gutter doesn t fall off the house is to install fascia hanger brackets. If a gutter run will measure longer than 40 feet 12 m the gutter should be positioned to pitch down from the middle aimed toward a downspout at each end. Through the screw mounting hole in each bracket drill a 3 16 inch diameter hole in the front edge of the gutter. Most property owners without a fascia board assume that their building s contractors must have had other provisions for averting water damage to their foundation and walls.

Then attach an end cap with rivets and seal the joint from the inside with gutter sealant. Drill 2 inch deep 1 8 inch diameter pilot holes through the fascia and rafter tails where your marks meet the chalk line.

Miter the ends of your fascia board to 45 degree angles so they fit together.
